August 8, 1164 AD/CE/Gregorian

I just now got this link from a Moorish Orthodox Church Yahoo group.

I know it's absurd to commemorate an event that a) took place within a culture using the Hijri calendar (as far as I know), and b) transcends time and place anyway (if I read Hakim Bey/PL Wilson right).

Nonetheless it's timely. At least for everyone who happens to read this before midnight. AD/CE/Gregorian.

It is said Hasan II declared Qiyamat on 17 Ramadan, which happens to be the birthday of Imam Ali. And the birthday of Ibn 'Arabi.

Now I'm going to go install more fire-retardant carcinogenic replacement suspended ceiling panels in K's room.  And crank some dub while doing it.

Happy day.

hakim

I was gonna post this too. Glad you did. Your name came up at work yesterday (PI.org to blogs to [so-called] non-Muslims to Hakim Baker to MOC) Well done!

Whenever someone says I was listening to dub, I get the chills. The reeeeeaaaalllly good kind!

large up massive,
had no idea you were so into dub. maybe bashment
but anyways, i run a little jumping sound,
vintage JA style, studio one speakers as big
as wardrobes. 12000plus tunes. from ska to
digi...specializing in studio one to channel one,
with a special love for waterhouse rub a dub

the point being, let me forward up some discs
in a dub missionary style. respect everytime

hakeem. I am beyond into dub at this point. I actually believe the rhythm has replaced my red blood. Your sound system sounds large (speakers and all). Mine is small speakers, but deep rooted and big record collections getting bigger.

Would love to hear what you're up to. Not sure what I've posted in the past, but I play the whole range from easy-sell ska to jump up booty dancehall, depending. But my main drive is digi.

Been into Mi Ninja (Courtney Melody) lately for digi.

But I still can't get this Ras Mike "Love They Neighbor" wax off my tables. It's big numbers.

Peace and much love.

Ras Michael is plugged by Baraka so much that it's on my wish list. What's digi?

I have something my well-meaning Dad burned for me on right now, by Gus Till, called Dub Shadows. I only really like a couple tracks on it. It's very ambient on the dub continuum. I've conditioned myself to attain a state sometimes when I listen to the one or two tracks I like. Once I had a vision of a green field, with a crick running through it, and Rumi and Shams were there kicking it with Fakhroddin and a few other hardcore dervishes. I suppose Ibn 'Arabi was there somewhere too. Mere "entertainments" I suppose, as the lower heavens are said to be.

Every time I read about dub there are five new subgenres I've never heard of before. I wish I could hear something from every one. No, half a CD's worth of something, from every subgenre. For better statistical sampling.

More entertainment.

hakim baker, qahviyya

pure niceness...
could you hook me with some samples of Courtney
melody? true confessions, i am not up on too much
past mid 90s, thats my collecting cut off
just cause i am trapped in that style and
fashion all the way. so my collection is heavy
on things like tenor saw, king kong, nitty gritty
michael prophet, al campbell, cornells campbell, and my all time favorite maybe little johnny wonder. lots of rub a dub, rankingdread, leroy smart, sammy dread, thats where the
heavy rotation is at. i would love to send some
mixes your way. if we are talking dub, uk is the
master in modern times i think, russ d., douggie
conscious, jah shaka, alpha omega, jah tubby, etc.
king general, icho candy etc. i used to be real
heavy into strictly roots 70s so have massive amounts
of tubby and scientist roots radics and things.
but lately i can only check for like early 70s studio
one and mid 80s...searching for stuff by heptones
and leroy sibbles...also, for serious listening, the
yard tapes are deep, like kilamanjaro and jack ruby
hi fi...i collects these too if you want some samples
respect..

Hakim, what do you know about Incunabula? Or should I say, what the heck is it?????

Used in reference to books printed before 1501

from Latin Cuna (cradle)

I was surprised to learn that the very first book to be mechanically reproduced (using woodblock techniques) was the Buddhist Diamon Sutra around the 9th century C.E. in China.

No, I think this is something quite different. It seems to be associated with Moorish Science and chaos theory. Wacky American stuff.

Oh,...THAT Incunabula...

do you know what it is all about O Always Wise to the Web Sitaram?

I don't get it!

(^:

Yes, THAT Incunabula.

I'm afraid I really don't know anything about it. I heard a rumor once that James Koehnline had something to do with it. I've never really looked into it, so I don't know if it's more of an elaborate reality-prank one can immerse oneself in (like Discordianism?) or if there's really something occult, mystical, and/or powerful in there somewhere. Maybe the point was to mess with people's minds until people realized they have this occult mystical power to transform their own reality.

Sheer speculation.

That's cool about the Diamond Sutra.

hakim

It does seem to be something on the order of a prank:

Hakeem. I've been out of internet touch. My collection hovers around the pre- and early nineties stuff as well. Though it sounds like my collection is easily dwarfed by your own. Nonetheless I still get to play out now and again. If it's ever not too much trouble and you have stuff laying around I'd of course like to hear some samples. If I had any to share I'd do the same. I got pretty heavy into the new booty stuff in the beginning, weeding out batty-bwoi lyrics as much as possible, but it has yeilded some huge tunes. Contemporary Dancehall has been dry as a bone since last year I've found. Just weak weak tunes. The Culture stuff has been much bigger in JA I am told, and as such has brought us some nice riddims. But again, nothing drops harder than an old Ninja Man track or "Boom Wha Dis" etc. My Courtney Melody roster is comprised of a few singles and "Courtney Melody: Showcase" "Ninja Mi Ninja" is on it and can drop pretty well, but it's worth the extended mixes if you've got a mic-friendly itching to get up and on that night. Been kind of into Alamantado's "Best Dressed Chicken" lately as well as Ranking Dread's "Lots of Loving" (Superstar).

Hakim B. I know I know. I'm pushing that record onto everyone. Do you have any mixes made? Love to hear what you're doing.

yer my dub dervishes, hakeem & baraka!

My Dad wants to download me something by Bill Laswell but I don't know what to go for--a lot what I check out on emusic is a little fluffy or something.

A Moor once recommended Hallucination Engine by Material, but they don't have that one!
