An interesting story today about the US elections from a Muslim point of view.
Of course, my instant reaction was one of shock and dismay that there are still Muslims out there foolish enough to support the Republican/neocon war machine.

Republicans get votes by convincing the middle and working classes that their interests are the same as those of the party's wealthy contributors, and by creating a culture of fear centered around religious minorities, reproductive health issues and civil rights for GLBT folk. I find it rather interesting that a hairdresser, for instance, could be induced to believe that millionaires are interested in helping her keep her shop when they aren't interested in any other aspect of her well-being, but that's perceptions for you.
Muslims supported Bush in 2000 and 2004, despite the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.
Those facts are absolutely correct I believe supported by Pew. I found that interesting.
Supposedly they supported the Bushes because they believed Bush et al was for morality, and family values. More like Bushes were about money for those who already had some and wanted more.
CAIR's endorsement of Bush in the 2000 election cost them some credibility among Muslims. Not nearly enough, though.
Muslims for Bush, was an interesting group promoted by MWU! which consisted of "liberal Sufi Pakistani" Muslims who wanted lower taxes for the affluent in our community, not for the middle class.
I agree with lowered taxes, not for AIG or Chevron, but for people who are making a modest wage and small business owners. These positions are advocated by Obama.
This year, Iranians supported Hillary Clinton for her bid to become the Democratic nominee, now many Iranians are breaking ranks with the Republican Party and voting "blue."
In Michigan, the Arab American vote (Christian, Druze, and Muslim) is overwhelmingly for Obama and feel Obama will be an ally to the Palestinian cause for self-determination and political independence from Israel. McCain conceded defeat in Michigan, where unemployment and a sluggish economy have greatly impacted residents there, much harder than elsewhere in the country.
I think as pertains to CAIR they don't have much credibility at all with the groups I know.
I have experienced and heard absolute horror stories about women being fired or denied jobs because of employers misunderstanding Islam, and when they turn to CAIR no one calls them back, or when they do they are immature young people who seemingly have been given too much responsibility and not enough education on the Constitution.
"Muslims for Bush, was an interesting group promoted by MWU! "
GM, when did you see this? As long as I've been on MWU, I've never seen it.
F. M., I think she's referring to a MWU associate who is well-known for her family money, whose parents were fundraisers for Bush. An author. If that helps. I don't want to name names here.
Ah yes, but that's not the same as promoting Muslims for Bush- it's discussing a member of the founding family, for reasons not related for Muslims for Bush.
I know why *I* am awake, but dude. Why are YOU awake?
B/c I'm psyched about something that I will tell you later, on the phone.
