Eracism, people!

Folks, I'm with Ali on this one. We need to show our support for Zidane.

The idea that he has somehow "damaged" his legacy, currently being spread by thousands of gadfly reporters (such as the one here) simply drives me up the wall.

Racism has polluted the spirit of football for too long. Perhaps everyone can learn something from all of this, and instead of pointing a finger at Zidane, look inward.

Somehow, racism seems to come with the territory. Somehow, it's still "OK" to call the opposing team's players "monkeys," "rag-heads," and so on.

The football world no longer turns a blind eye to hooliganism. Perhaps the next issue that needs to be tackled is the idea that somehow it's OK to take insulting players and coaches a step further than allowed in "normal" venues.

And for all of you who still think that this incident is nothing to worry about, consider the fact that Materazzi is hiding from the press right now. He will not come out and talk about what he did. Why? Because deep inside, he probably knows it was shameful and wrong. At least I fucking hope so.

I have designed some products meant to show support for Zidane in my personal CafePress shop. I will only be turning a small profit from the products, between a dollar and fifty cents. If enough money is ammassed for CafePress to send me a check, I pledge to donate the money to a charity devoted to stamping out racism.

If you have any more product ideas beside the t-shirt, button, and oval sticker currently available, please let me know and I'll see what I can do.

One of the progressive geniuses of our times, Eduardo Galeano of Uraguay, takes on the ugly under belly of Futbol.

Excellent article in the Progressive.

If you are not familiar with Eduardo Galeano, spend some time reading his ideas. He is brilliant, funny and relevant to the Cause for Humanity.
