GMasala, Smackdown is the location for all aggressive weirdness that has no appropriate place on the rest of the site. It is also my attempt to respect people’s free speech as well as give them warnings about no longer posting unwarranted nastiness. So I delete it from the original spot, put it here, warn the person not to do it again, to have real conversation. It is a gesture of good will, a gesture of giving the benefit of the doubt. If the person does not play nice, I just keep deleting. But we can say that 1. we respected free speech, 2. we tried to engage the person, and 3. the person had no interest in conversation.

Just don’t visit Smackdown. It is the location where the Iron Sheik makes Trolls humble.

I finally posted a response to Hell Pig. I hope that it will cut off any future debates of this sort. Well, it will cut them off because I have made it clear I will delete them. So yes, we moderate but we do try to give people a chance first.

I’m sorry thats just lame, on one hand you have decent articles and on the other you have videos of drunks expressing their desire to violently sodomize others. GM, When we first started to experience infighting among our readers, personal attacks, you know that sort of nastiness that can happen on the web, we were loathe to delete it. On many sites, heated disagreements will simply be deleted. But I have yet to see an instance in which the deletion was not deeply resented and created more problems down the line. Moreover, this site is devoted to be a free speech zone, a commons for Muslims of all types to discuss any topics. But free speech does not mean you get to take a poop on others as you like or get into petty fights wherever you want. So we created this space on the site for people who want to do that. No one gets alienated, if you want to have a scathing fight come here. The space is not a pretty one and it makes the point that what folks are engaging in is not so pretty either. This space and the Bonkers alert (which any reader can drag and drop into a comments thread they feel is getting out of hand) has given us a very peaceful site for the most part. We do not seem to get the kinds of petty fights and name calling common on other sites, we do not seem to get the kind of resentment readers feel on other sites. In other words, this set up is working. As for your problem with the Iron Sheik, well, I have to differ with you there. He is one of my favorite professional wrestlers in part because his “character” is such a lunatic. He was the perfect mascot for this section.
