Obama's "Muslim smear"

Tagged:

Is anyone else concerned about the campaign to "smear" Obama as a Muslim, and what it implies about Islam and being a Muslim? (http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2008/06/20/obama/)
I am a relatively recent convert (last year), and have non-Muslim children by a first marriage. I worry that being Muslim is being put into the same domestic enemy-formation category that was once filled by communists and anarchists. Instead of red-baiting, we now have Muslim-baiting. Is society telling my children I'm some sort of traiterous, moral deviant for worshipping the one god and acknowledging his prophet?

Obama has failed to acknowledge his Muslim heritage, even if he was not raised by his adulterous father, he was exposed to Islam while growing up for a short time in Indonesia.

However, Obama has carefully scripted his autobiography to enhance his political ambitions and goals.

He has kept Muslim Americans at arm's length for far too long, and while I supported Hillary Clinton, even though she didn't necessarily reach out to Muslim Americans either, Obama has a Muslim first name and a Muslim middle name.

However, rather than talking to America candidly about personal faith and public office, including a discussion of Islam and its distorted image in the United States, he has taken this community for granted and not adequately reach out to us.

I do not trust him, Chicago Democrats play by rules that are different from the National Party, he successfully utilized "scorched Earth" tactics to manage to win pledged delegates, even though he lost the popular vote to Clinton.

Now Clinton is campaigning with Obama, not because she feels obligated out of the kindness of her heart, but because she is looking out for her own political future. Her move to campaign with her former rival, has nothing to do with party unification.

But Obama must be careful not to alienate Muslims, Muslims might play a significant role in swing states that could determine the next president this coming Fall.

I might vote Republican, because I have issues with Obama's anti-free trade stance with Mexico, his comments pandering to Israeli lobbyists in DC, his comments over military action in the tribal Afghan-Pathan regions of Pakistan, his comments on Iran, and his lack of acknowledging his Muslim heritage.
