You can twist things all you want. You can take almost any religious text and by misinterpeting it and twisting it get it to say what you want. You see, anyone can take a text, maybe YOUR text, and make it say all sorts of things, when taken out of context. And I am more than sure that this is just how most people would justify the truly horrific things that are in their religious texts. But if you allow for context in your texts, why not allow us for context in ours?

If seen in proper context you'll find that the early Muslim community, like the Jews, was vastly outnumbered, outarmed, you name it. They fought, and killed, to survive, but in that context alone.

If you take a look at the below you can certainly see how the Old Testament showed a very bloodthirsty God commanding His followers to do all sorts of things, genocide, ethnic cleansing, rape, murder, incest.

Do Christians and Jews follow a literal view of this today? Some do, but precious few. The rest of the Jews and Christian provide proper context and view for all of these. Thank God not all Christians are ethnic cleansing/genocidal maniacs like the Lords Resistance Army in Uganda, or ultra-religious Christians in Serbia. Thank God not all Jews are the religious fanatics of the settlers in Hebron, and thank God not all Muslims are fanatics like al-Queda.

The very questions you asked me can be turned right back around to you based on Christian and Jewish texts and history. Why are we in such a hurry to attack others when our own house isnt in order?

I will be the first one to admit there are things in The Qur'an that can be taken out of context and used by extremists. Do not ask me to defend the out of context understanding, because I cannot. Like the vast majority of Muslims, I refuse to use a skewed context and understanding to justify things.

Just like the majority of Jews will reject The Old Testament justification that some modern Jews want to use to expell all Palestinians, Christians and Muslims, from the West Bank, I too, as a Muslim, will reject the foundation upon which the extremists seek to build. As an American raised on Sunday school classes I can tell you things about the Bible backwards and forwards, so I am not someone fresh off the boat who doesnt have a clue.

You, in your understanding(or lack thereof) of The Qur'an, stnad squarely on the side of the fanatics. I bet you'd never thought you'd side with bin Laden did you? Well, when you talk like you are here, not only are you taking his side, you are providing aid and comfort to the enemy.

See the below and see if it doesnt at least match the worse of what you can find in The Qur'an. It is from the Bible of course.

In the Old Testament, the Holy book of Jews and Christians the text tells us that God destroyed entire cities based on the sins of some of its inhabitants, He even killed children. Gen-19:24

In the Bible God orders Abraham to kill his son, but at the last minute allows him to kill a goat instead. Not the actions of a loving God, for sure. Gen. 22-10

Judah's first born son is slain by God, according to the Old Testament. For what it doesnt tell us. Again, the slaughter of innocent children doesnt seem in keeping with God's grace. Gen 38-7

God tells Judah to comman Onan to go to his brothers wife, he refuses, and God kills Onan for refusing to sleep with his brothers wife. Gen-38:8-10

Exodus15:3 says that "The Lord is a man of War." Not too peaceful eh?

"The Lord has sworn [God swears!] that the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation." Exodus 17:14-16. Wow, the God of the Jews and Christians sanctions genocide?

If an ox gores someone, "then the ox shall surely be stoned." Ex 21:28. Seems like God isnt into animal rights.

"The stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death." Numbers 18:7 Seems like The Christians and Jews dont like strangers.

God delivers the Ammorites to Moses and he kills them all, men, women and children. Numbers 21-34-35

When one of the Israelite men brings home a foreign woman, "Phinehas (Aaron's grandson) sees them and throws a spear "through the man .. and the woman through her belly." This act pleases God so much that "the plague was stayed from the children of Israel." But not before 24,000 had died. Numbers 25:6-9

For impaling the interracial couple, God rewards Phinehas and his sons with the everlasting priesthood. Numbers 25:6-9

Under God's direction, Moses' army defeats the Midianites. They kill all the adult males, but take the women and children captive. When Moses learns that they left some live, he angrily says: "Have you saved all the women alive? Kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves." So they went back and did as Moses (and presumably God) instructed, killing everyone except for the virgins. In this way they got 32,000 virgins -- Wow! (Even God gets some of the booty -- including the virgins.) Numbers 31:1-54
