Now that we've got everyone togged out in the latest fall fashions, I'll get to some ethical, fun options for makeup this fall. Bold colored lips and smoky eyes are still in, but please don't combine them, unless you want your makeup to be critiqued by Anousheh Ansari while she orbits the globe. This should be balanced by natural looking skin (Laury, hon, you've got gorgeous skin, so don't let me catch you hiding under cream foundation) and lightly enhanced lashes. Thanks to companies like The Body Shop and Burt's Bees, we can all look good, have fun, and be good to the earth while doing so. The products I feature have not been tested on animals, and a few are vegan. A few of my favorites:

Laury (and all you ladies fortunate enough to have lovely skin): I suggest a tinted moisturizer this season. It's enough to protect your skin, provide all the coverage you need, and this one by Burt's Bees will help make your skin even lovelier underneath. Go look, as they don't have a graphic I can steal: Burt's Bees.
Go lightly on the lashes this season, but do play them up a bit, especially if you need a microscope to find yours, like me. One coat should be enough.
For smoky eyes, Herbs of Grace's Matte Purple collection is perfect for nighttime glamourpusses with cool coloring (or daytime rebels):
Where the brown is better for warmer complexions, for daytime.
For daytime cool complexions, the Grey Matte is suitable for the office:
For you Golden Glamour Girls, I do favor the Brown Shimmer:
Warm complexions could also use sable, chocolate, or deep taupe for a smoky look: navy, hunter green, and aubergine work better for cool colored customers.
One's cheeks should be rosy this season, but if you can't manage the eight hours of sleep, good diet, and regular exercise that would give them to you naturally, fake it. I favor gel blushes when I wear them, as they look most natural, and the Body Shop has got my favorite in a rosy hue:
And in a more golden, sunset sort of pink:
Lipstick is, for me, the most fun part of wearing makeup. For this fall's sheer bold shades, try the The Body Shop's Sheer Lip Shine in Strawberry:
Sheer, red lip color is in this fall- think a lip stain which a bit more punch. But red isn't the only bold shade in this fall:
The Body Shop's Lip Gloss Dot in Bilberry Juice:

It's a darker shade, but a sheerer texture- both are very wearable to the office, to school, but a bit calm for night wear.
For warmer skin tones, Burt's Bee's has a Lip Shimmer in Papaya- bold enough for the new look, and in a very autmnal tone. Alas, they don't have a cool graphic of the product, but you can head to their site, and see the range of shades they offer for the Lip Shimmer- classics, every one : Burt's Bees .
OK, now forget all this good stuff and have fun. If none of this looks good on you, find out what does. Experiment with different shades and effects; if a color is too strong, dilute it with moisturizer, clear lip gloss, or apply it very lightly. If the smoky look makes you look like a raccoon no matter what, try playing up your lips, your lashes, or some other beautiful feature. (Yes, you have them.) And if some aunty at the mosque tries to get on your case for wearing makeup, remind her that Allah loves beauty, and offer a makeover.
Be Beautiful to Yourself.

Novice here: how do I know if I'm warm complected?
A quick and dirty guide to figuring out your coloring: Natural Hair Color: Golden girls and guys have hair that's light, golden or champagne to dark golden blonde, red or light auburn with dark blonde flecks, brown with reddish or copper highlights, or reddish to golden brown, or black. Cool complected cuties have hair that's ash brown, ash blonde, including a very dark ash brown that's nearly black. The only red that cool complexions can wear well is a burgundy sort of red. Skin Tone: Warm complexions are olive, beige, "peaches and cream" or golden. Cool complexions can be rosy, pale, or dark with a rosy undertone. Eye Colors: Warm eyes are green ,hazel, or golden brown, especially a caramel. Cool eyes are blue, grey, violet, or dark ash brown. Wardrobe: What colors do you look your best in? If you look best in golden yellow, brown, or orange, you may be a golden girl (or guy). If you look better in blues, purples, or grey, you may have a cool complexion. I think this is sheer brilliance! It's about time we sisters get our color coordination in sync. Whether it be clothes or our skin, our pallette has to blend. If being overdone isn't good for a turkey, it sure isn't good for you either. Great introduction, looking forward to more updates.
Oh thank you Nakia, today is the first day back at work. The only thing that put my mood up was this post, then going into get ready and doing some make-up.
I've got this stuff from Smashbox (green tint) that you put on underneath your base, takes the red out. It works really well and is so light. I use barely any foundation, so trust me on how light it is. I no longer look like I do not want to be at work today....ha ha ha.....
All power to the Fashion Mujahid!
